Ghana’s economy for the past few years since the COVID-19 pandemic has experienced some backslides and hard times. Since 2020, Ghana’s economy has suffered drastic inflation. This made the lives of its citizens hard.
From my own experience, my mum had complained bitterly about the rising prices of fuel, foodstuffs, and almost everything that was on the market. Life had become hard and a lot of us the citizens spent more than we earned. The honest truth is that; the dollar currency was way ahead of the Ghanaian currency. The exchange rate was unimaginable and many experience the shocks of their lives. But, does this imply that we cannot survive? Indeed, we can, but now. Despite the hard times, I humbly want to submit to you today, some of the various ways and means to cope with Ghana’s economy.
To begin with, there are various ways and means, that
as individuals, you can make it through Ghana’s economy.
First among the many choices is;
1. Making good use of the Dollar.
The dollar is one of the strongest currencies in the world. In Ghana, a dollar is fifteen Ghana cedis (GH₵ 15) and this will certainly increase over the years. Now, imagine yourself staying in Ghana but earning a foreign currency, precisely the dollar. This will be a plus for you and you will have the greater advantage. But know, this truth, that nothing comes on a silver platter and even the Bible encourages us to go to the ant, learn its ways, and be wise. Taking into consideration, the ant is a hardworking insect. So then, fast forward, how then could you earn the dollar whilst you still reside in Ghana.
Ways You Can Earn the Dollar Whilst in Ghana.
Using the internet.
To the best of my knowledge through my research and investigations, the internet is one of the very key places where you can make money online. Know very well that, there are many online platforms that pay you for performing tasks like surveys, writing novels or books, or developing your own website with the help of Blogger or WordPress. After developing your site and meeting all policies, you can monetize your site to start earning. Google AdSense is the number one Ad network, that I will personally recommend for your site monetization if you want to. Also, the good news is that this Ad network pays you in all currencies of your choosing.
Working from Home or Taking up Remote Jobs in Foreign Companies.
LinkedIn Job Finder, etc. are places on the internet where you can search for remote jobs, that is working from home and applying for them online. there are companies all over the world looking for brilliant and intelligent people to work for them. If one is lucky, you can secure jobs in a foreign country where you are being paid in the dollar. There are a lot of Ghanaians doing this already and as a matter of fact, it is helping them. You can also do the same. All you need is a smartphone or laptop or a desktop computer.
Starting an Online Market.
Like Alibaba, Amazon, and other online marketplaces, as an individual in Ghana, you can start an online platform. Now, the goodness that most Ghanaians do not know is that this existing trade platform partners with individuals to open shops with them. How do you go about this? You can go ahead and register on the platforms as a seller and advertise the products or goods you would want to sell. In case someone looks at your products and requests to purchase them, you can ship the goods to them in exchange for some money. These are sent directly to your PayPal account or bank account.
Applying for mini jobs or tasks online
Freelancers are some of
the many individuals who are doing well using the online platforms. Who are
they and what do they do?
Freelancers are
individuals who perform tasks online for payment. How is this done? There are
sites like Fiverr, Freelancers, and Upwork that serve as a medium between
freelancers and clients. On these sites, you can either register as a freelancer
or a client.
When you register as a
freelancer, you are given the opportunity to update your profile with what you
can do and the prices you take for your services. Maybe you are a videographer, website
developer, content writer, or Ghostwriter.
Just update your profile with what you can do best. If someone is interested, the individual will send you a chat to perform a task for them as they pay you for your service. It could be writing, video editing or what have you?
2. Securing a High Paying Job.
In Ghana, high-paying jobs are very difficult to come by. Most of the jobs available pay below a thousand cedis which is even less than eighty dollars ($80) based on the current exchange rate. Prices of goods and services are exorbitant in the country and earning little means you will have nothing to save at all. Therefore, securing the right-paying job in Ghana is very necessary.
3. Starting Your Own Business
Another major way to
sustain yourself in Ghana’s economy is by starting your own business. These
businesses could range from farming trade or anything that could fetch your
income. A few people already have their businesses and surprisingly they are also
making it. One among these people is Madam
Mawusi Tenyo, my aunty who started her own detergent business.
What does she do? She makes liquid soaps, washing powders, power zones, and shower gels, which she sells around her community every day. She makes about three hundred cedis (GH₵ 300) every day and this helped her a lot. Within a month she ears around nine thousand Ghana cedis.
4. Start A Small Farm
Starting (having) your farm
is one important thing you could also think of. Take, for example, you only eat
what you produce on the farm and not buying one from the market.
Food products are expensive in the market and producing them yourself will help you cut down costs and minimize expenditure. Being able to afford a three-square meal is important. Having a small backyard farm is like making a profit for yourself instead of making it for others.
Conclusion
Drawing the curtain on
this blog it is important that the above information is provided to help you
have some ideas as to what you can also start today to begin your survival journey
as an inhabitant in Ghana.
It is to your own
advantage to look at the above points and details so you can commence with
something today. It is a business or an online job.
