Everyone has a passion. Something they want to do or to become in the future. Everyone has something they love doing most, Mr. Gerrard is one of a kind who has a passion for helping humanity. He wanted to become a doctor. I encountered Mr. Gerrard in the market as I was going about my usual routine of buying and selling. I buy from him often but little did I know he had awesome dreams before this day. Not the dreams that we have when we go to bed, these were plans that he had for the future, and it wasn’t that, he was a poor wretched man when I met him, no, he had his own business and he is doing well, but according to him, he wanted a softer life without much stress. Really, at this moment I had begun to envision what a softer life without much stress would be like. Mr. Gerrard is the name of this old man who is about the age of sixty-five. That is quite a journey on the planet, right?

Let us learn about  Mr. Gerrard and how he went about the decisions he took in his life. My hope is that this blog teaches you, encourages you, and moreover lets you know what life can sometimes be like.

Starting with.

Mr. Gerrard was born in the year 1960 in January. In a small town in Nsawam, he learned from his mother that he was born in a bathroom. Being the third born of five and the only boy as well, his dreams and ambitions became more aggressive as he aged. The truth was that his dad and mum did not have enough to support him in school. You should know by now that this is a common trend in our world and has been in play for many years. We just don’t really think about it because it is seen to be something normal. Didn’t really capture what this trend is? Let me enlighten you. Throughout the world, it is common everywhere or at some point where one is unable to further their education due to the lack of capital. This really discourages people as they quit, but Mr. Gerrard should serve as an example to every individual who finds themselves in such circumstances.

Looking at other alternatives

Mr. Gerrard, though having met challenges in life in pursuing his dream to be a doctor, looked at other alternatives and opportunities around him. During my conversation with him, he made it clear to me that he was a bright student when he was those days back in school. He was one of the best students in his primary school, junior high school, and even senior high school. With high hopes that he would certainly become the doctor he wanted to become, life after Senior High School was a tug of war with no chances to escape at all. He passed his WASSCE with all A’s but then capital to further his education was nothing to write home about. He sought help, and applied for scholarships, but had slim chances of success because of the population of applicants.

That didn’t stop him from becoming successful. He started looking at other alternatives even if he couldn’t pursue his dream of becoming a medical doctor. He decided finally to learn a trade.

Having a vision of tomorrow

Mr. Gerrard learned to trade attires. What factors did he have to consider? What to buy, where to buy, price to buy, location to sell, and at what price. He mentioned Mrs. Novia, the good Samaritan he had met, to me. During his years after senior high school, Mr. Gerrard, according to him, had no other choice but to look for a job that would pay him well. Finding a job itself was another headache as well. This then gentleman in his youthful days was very aggressive and was finally employed by Mrs. Novia who helped later on helped him by teaching him her trade. Though it was hard for him initially, he had a vision of tomorrow. He knew he wouldn’t be suffering forever, and for that matter, he worked harder, saved part of his salary, and finally had the money to start the business himself. God being so good, he was able to make it through his hard times.

Taking the wrong turn in life

This is to advise a person in their youth reading this. As young as I am, Mr. Gerrard told me a lot about most of us the youth today, and what we do. Patience moves mountains, he said, and little things lead to great and mighty things. It is also said, that, little drops of water make a mighty ocean, and ring to you another bell of patience, there is the old saying that Rome was not built in a day. Lack of patience according to Mr. Gerrard is what causes a person to take the wrong turn in life. Taking the wrong turn in life is like making bad decisions that will not help your future. The youth today has absolutely made money a focus to the extent of forgetting about their health. That is why in some parts of the world, you will come across kids who are involved in fraud, armed robbery, and drug dealing, what else do you have in mind?

Conclusion

Nothing good comes on a silver platter. And know that you will always have to go through some hard times to get the best results. Why must you do what is right? This is a moment to take the right steps to make the next beneficial decision for your life. Today, though Mr. Gerrard couldn't become a doctor, he is still successful in life and running his own business. It is important, therefore, that we do not have to give up on ourselves when things do not go the way we want it.
