Putting yourself in the Future|| Why does it matter?

Mr. Godsword Doffey

Intro

You may be asking yourself if tomorrow matters at all? Yes, right now you may be worried, disturbed, sad, happy, or in a situation where you are in anticipation of tomorrow. I had the inspiration for this blog when I was in a car from Madina a suburb of Accra to Tudu, the main township of Accra where business and trade mainly takes place. This is where it occurred to me that it matters so much when we put ourselves into the future. Do not be confused as to how possible it can be to put yourself in the future. I am not trying to mean that you use a time machine and go into the future, that is not possible but it could be possible in some years to come.

What I truly mean about putting yourself in the future is having visions of tomorrow. This is as in making plans for two, four, six, eight, ten years ahead of you. Why must you do this? Let me tell you a true life story. It is already said, that nothing good comes on a silver platter. This is to mean that every good thing in life requires effort, hard work, and determination. Here is a true-life story of Mr. Godsword, the man who had been through the hardships of life to become the billionaire he is today. I hope this motivates you.

Mr. Godsword

Mr. Godsword was born an orphan. It happened that his mother died just after delivering him, and for his father, he died just a week before his birth. A little baby boy who has not yet seen the beauty of Mother Earth was given into the care of his aunt Mrs. Komlatsey, the younger sister of his mother. Sad to say, his family was not stable financially. Mrs. Komlatsey was a fish monger who earned a meager from her fish mongering business at Adina in the Volta region of Ghana. A town that is deprived of many social and educational amenities. A town at sea, where there was only one school that the kids could attend. Godsword, as he is popularly called didn't get the capital or a sponsor to finance his education. Thankfully, the school was financed by the government, and for that matter, he didn't have to pay school fees. Money for other school bills such as exercise books, textbooks, and other educational materials was very challenging. His aunt did the little she could in her capacity but this wasn't enough to help him get that far.

When Godsword was thirteen and in primary five, he started joining the fishermen at sea. This is a scary and dangerous job for such a little boy to undertake. But due to the difficulty, the little boy was going through, he had no other option than to join the grownups go fishing at sea. He did this continuously for seven years until he finished his Senior High School Education. Saved some money from his work and studied hard as well. During his tertiary education, he had a scholarship although it was not fully funded, he used his savings to clear some bills he needed to clear by himself. Gradually, he successfully walked through that chapter of his life, did his internship, and had the opportunity to get a high-paying job which helped him establish himself. Godsword was a person who had visions for the future. Though he was young, he was thinking of the years ahead of him. He took upon himself the decision to work hard daily to become successful and not let his kids suffer as he did. Let me tell you some beautiful things Mr. Godsword did to become very successful.

He overlooked the shadows of his past.

Most of us get stuck in our past failing to see the future and letting the past go. We therefore become a hindrance to our own progress in life because we have the feeling that the universe has forsaken us. That is not how Mr. Godsword reasoned. Though he had no mother or father, and his aunt was a rich woman, he did not leave himself depressed, and hurting the universe. This is a lesson to learn, that no matter what we are going through or whatever lesson the world has taught us, we should let go of our past as we persevere for what we really want.

He planned for the future.

Planning for the day and years ahead was one key thing Mr. Godsword did. As we learned from his story above,  he was saving up some money for his tertiary education even before he had his partial scholarship. Many of us want good things in our lives but then, the sad thing we do is that we do not work toward these good things or plan for them. We make life so difficult for ourselves instead of going out into the world to explore. At the age of thirteen Godsword had taken up the fight to battle the hardships that he encountered daily. This is not to encourage us to advise little children or our wards to go out into the street to fend for ourselves but to encourage us the older ones to do better than to sit down and cross our legs.

Why Putting Yourself in the future is important?|| Why it matters

Envisioning tomorrow is what I mean by putting yourself in the future. This a stance whereby you think of what tomorrow could be for you and planning towards it. Sometimes, it is true we cannot make the decisions for our future by ourselves but we can always talk to someone. There are institutions, established and renowned counselors, counseling centers, and elders in our community that we can talk to. You can approach the people in your community who are doing well in life and ask them about how they also started the journey of life. These I am people I am certain will advise, guide, and teach you the steps to take. Putting yourself in the future, as in planning and preparing for the years ahead of you will help you achieve your dreams of a better life. This will also help you to be ready for situations ahead of you.
